Elementary | Grades 1 - 3

From Grades 1 to 3 at Clear Water Academy, we create a nurturing and enjoyable environment that encourages a profound love and enthusiasm for learning. Our students develop lifelong habits including organizational skills, concentration, critical thinking, perseverance, and a desire to produce high-quality work.

Our learning environment focuses on the quality of relationships with our students and families. With small class sizes and a supportive atmosphere, students feel secure to explore and take risks in their learning. We instil values of faith, virtue, and a commitment to serving others. Our students are inspired by the exemplary dedication, love, and talent exhibited by our faculty members

Academic Achievement

Academic

We offer a rigorous academic program with the development of superior skills in literacy and numeracy. Our educational program places a strong emphasis on developing essential communication skills, including reading comprehension, composition, and public speaking.

Your child will build the confidence and mathematical proficiency necessary for success in the primary grades and beyond. We use the Alberta Program of Studies to inspire your child's curiousity and a sense of wonder about the world and how it works.

Leadership Programs

Leaderships

In our Leadership program for Grades 1 - 3, service lies at its core. As a Catholic school, we uphold Jesus as the ultimate exemplar of service. Through a structured rotation schedule, all our students have equal opportunities to actively participate in a variety of tasks, such as organizing the classroom library, tidying up after lunch, and providing assistance to teachers. By engaging in these activities, our students cultivate a spirit of selflessness and foster a deep sense of responsibility towards their school community.

In the school's "Buddy Program", older classes, Grades 4 - 6, are paired up with younger classes to build positive social connections, offer role modelling and provide assistance with basic skills.

Physical Education

The physical learning units for Grades 1 - 3 focus on building a strong foundation by introducing physical literacy and the language behind the actions they perform. Students are actively encouraged to participate in a diverse range of cooperative activities promoting teamwork. Additionally, our students are introduced to a gymnastic flair that includes moving bounces, static balances, and ropes, among other equipment.

This period also marks the initiation of activities like tossing, catching, jumping, kicking, and striking, contributing to a comprehensive and enjoyable physical education curriculum for young learners.

Fine Arts

In the early years of elementary education, our programme embraces multiple approaches that foster an environment where students can nurture and integrate their inherent talents. Our Fine Arts and Music Specialists guide students through a progressive series of learning experiences, starting with the exploration of speech patterns, rhythmic movements, and simple melodies. This approach mirrors the natural and playful way children interact with their surroundings.

At Clear Water Academy, our elementary programme features six assembly events held throughout the school year, each centred around themes such as the Advent Season, The Stations of the Cross, Mother's Day, Grandparent's Day, and more.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Catechesis

It is a hands-on method of faith formation based on the Montessori method of learning. The sacred Atrium is prepared for children from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 2 to explore and spend time with God, the Word, and handcrafted materials that link scripture with liturgy.

We cultivate enjoyment within the spiritual life to develop a deep and personal relationship with Jesus.

We focus on creating a safe and nurturing environment consistent with the spirit of the Integral Formation of our school. This care extends to our before and after-school programs for elementary students.

Our before-school activities prepare your child for their day through arts and crafts, painting, games, and dramatic play. After-school sessions include time for a snack, homework, outdoor recreation, games, crafts, or reading. Our Child Care Certified staff design all sessions to continue integral learning and fun in a familiar environment.

The total fee for pick-ups and drop-offs is $2,500 per student for the 2023/2024 school year. The fees will be paid in monthly installments (September 1, 2023 - June 1, 2024). For more information please contact us at [email protected]
